Closing Time... How to close your pool...

The procedure:
  1. Keep your pump and filtration system running until you’re ready close the pool:  Water circulation will aid in the proper distribution of your closing chemicals.
  2. Take a water sample to your local Chemex Pool and Spa Supplies to ensure you have a good chemical balance: Use your Poolife Winter Closing Kit as directed to treat your pool water forthe winter months.
  3. Drain all the lines and blow them out: Use a compressor to blow out the lines because there could be dips in the lines where water can remain trapped, having the potenial to freeze, expand and break the lines.
  4. Plug the inlets.
  5. Blow out the skimmer line and plug it.  Add Non-Toxic Pooline Anti-Freeze to your lines as and added level of protection from winter freezing.
  6. Disconnect lines from pump and filter.
  7. Drain the filter and the pump housings: Most filters have a winterizing setting, so you only need to remove the drain plug and allow the water to drain. Because there’s no way for water to get into the filter, you should not replace the plug because typically water is still dripping off the filter elements even if air is blown through it, and by keeping the plugs out you can allow any excess water to drain.  Remove plugs from the strainer housing and the pump housing on your pump, and drain the pump completely.  (SUPER TRICK: Place all plugs, clamps, and orings in pump basket and seal them inside the pump strainer under the lid so they don't get lost over the winter)
  8. Cover your pool: To prevent the water from being exposed to external or environmental contamination use a solid pool cover. If you use a Loop-Loc Mesh Safety Cover make sure you use your Mesh Mate to prevent sunlight from getting to the water.  This will aid in the keeping the pool clear.
  9. Watch Football.  (Applies only to pool closings taking place on Sundays)
